CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY TODAY... JOAN JETT

American rock singer Joan Jett was born 65 years ago as Joan Marie Larkin in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania.  She is also a songwriter, record producer, guitarist and actress.

When she was 13, Joan got her first guitar and took lessons to learn it, however, in view that her teacher only taught her folk songs, she decided to quit.  She then moved to California with her family and found the chance to explore her interest in music.  Matter of factly, she created the all-female rock band ‘The Runaways’ when she was 16 and together they embarked on a world tour and gained popularity in various countries.  Until the group split in 1979, they had released 5 albums.

That same year, Joan travelled to England to pursue a solo career and went on to record 3 songs, after which she returned to her home country to start filming a movie about ‘The Runaways’.  She even wrote some songs to be used for the film.  Afterwards, Jett formed ‘Joan Jett and the Blackhearts’ and to date the band released 12 albums, with the most recent one that came out this year named ‘Mindsets’.  One of their most famous tracks is undoubtedly ‘I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll’ released in 1981 and which is a cover version of a song originally recorded by the group ‘The Arrows’ in 1975.

As a solo artist Joan had 3 albums: ‘Joan Jett’, ‘Bad Reputation’ and ‘The Hit List’.  Apart from music, Jett appeared in over 25 TV shows, series and movies.  She has also received some awards and honours including a Golden God and an AP Icon award.
