American singer-songwriter and guitarist Kenny Loggins was born 77 years ago as Kenneth Clark Loggins in Everett, Washington, is divorced and has 5 children.
After graduating from high school in 1966, Kenny founded the band ‘The Second Helping’ and went on to release 3 singles which he wrote. Afterwards, he collaborated with 2 other bands, one of which he played the guitar with and the other he penned 4 tracks for them which they included in one of their albums. Loggins then joined a group named ‘Gator Creek’.
In 1970, Kenny met Jim Messina who was a record producer at the time, started collaborating together and got on so well that they formed a duo and composed songs, arranged music etc. Their debut album was released in 1971, and in the 4 years that followed, they embarked on extensive tours and produced 6 studio and 2 live albums, selling 16 million records, rendering the duo very popular.
After their 6th studio album came out in 1976, Kenny and Jim decided to part ways to focus on a solo career. In fact, Loggins released his debut solo album the following year i.e. in 1977 and recorded 2 more albums by the end of the 70s. They featured successful tracks like ‘Whenever I call you Friend’, sung in duet with Stevie Nicks and ‘This is It’.
During the next decade, Kenny released 3 albums which included the number one international hit ‘Footloose’, which was the original soundtrack of the 1984 movie bearing the same name; the number 2 US hit ‘Danger Zone’, which was one of the hit singles of the famous 1986 film ‘Top Gun’s soundtrack; and ‘Meet Me Half Way’, once again a soundtrack hit single of the 1987 movie ‘Over the Top’.
From the beginning of the 90s to date, Loggins had 17 albums, 12 singles and 5 music videos. He is also a member of the country music trio ‘Blue Sky Riders’ with whom he released 2 albums in 2013 and 2015.
Apart from music, Kenny published 2 books and appeared in numerous TV shows like Dharma & Greg, ‘American Idol’, ‘Let’s Make a Deal’, ‘Raising Hope’, ‘Playing House’, ‘Home & Family’, ‘Family Guy’ and ‘Behind Closed Doors’.
During his +50-year career, Loggins won a Daytime Emmy and 2 Grammy Awards.
