Kurt Donald Cobain was born on 20th February 1967 in Aberdeen, Washington, USA and passed away on 5th April 1994. He was a singer, songwriter, musician and visual artist, best known as the lead vocalist of the rock group Nirvana. He was married and has a daughter.
Coming from a family of music artists, Kurt started showing interest in music practically as a toddler of 2 years old. He used to sing and at age 4 he began to play the piano as well as singing. He also loved to draw cartoon and film characters.
Kurt had a happy childhood until the age of 9 when his parents divorced and found different partners. His character instantly changed and he became rebellious. At school, he reluctantly became part of both a wrestling and a basketball team, although not at all interested in sports, after his father’s insistence. A schoolfriend then introduced him to hardcore and punk rock music and Kurt started attending rock shows and concerts.
On his 14th birthday, Cobain was gifted with a guitar and played several songs and the following year formed a group which however, split the year after. In 1987, he created ‘Nirvana’ and their first album was released 2 years later. Their second album came out in 1991 and was very successful. It included the single ‘Smells like teen Spirit’ which Kurt himself wrote. Other songs written by him include ‘Lithium’, ‘About a Girl’, ‘All Apologies’, ‘In Bloom’ and ‘Come as you Are’, amongst others. Another album was released until Cobain’s demise.
He passed away in April 1994 at the age of 27 from committing suicide by gunshot. He will always be remembered as one of the most influential alt-rock musicians of all time.
