Italian singer-songwriter, record producer and actress Loredana Carmela Rosaria Berte` was born 74 years ago in Bagnara Calabra in the Reggio Calabria region and is divorced. She is the younger sister of the late singer Mia Martini.
During her teenage years, Loredana joined a dancing group and began performing in a discotheque in Rome. There she met singer Renato Zero and together they gave live performances by singing, miming and dancing. In 1970, she was chosen to take part in the Italian version of the rock musical ‘Hair’ and 2 years later performed again in ‘Ciao Rudy’.
Berte`’s first studio album was released in 1974, followed by a second one two years later, which included her first local hit ‘Sei Bellissima’. Since then, 16 more studio albums were issued, plus 4 live ones and 5 collections/boxes. She also had 32 singles amongst which the most popular tracks there are ‘Non sono una Signora’, ‘E la luna Busso`, ‘Non ti dico No’, ‘Figlia di…’ and ‘Pazza’.
Over the years, Loredana became more and more famous and is best known for her quaint attire used during her performances. She participated 12 times in the yearly San Remo Music Festival between 1986 and this year, with the best result being arriving in 4th place with the tracks ‘Respirare’ and ‘Cosa ti aspetti da Me’ in 2012 and 2019 respectively. Apart from the SRMF, she performed numerous times in various other music festivals such as Festivalbar, Azzurro and Vota la Voce.
Loredana is the recipient of a large amount of awards including 11 Gold and 7 Platinum discs, 3 Critics’ Awards, 2 Lifetime Achievement Awards etc. This year also marks the 5oth anniversary of her music career.
Apart from music, Berte` starred in 10 movies, collaborated on the screenplay of the biographical film ‘Io sono Mia’ featuring the life of her late sister Mia Martini, sang 2 movie soundtracks, voiced an animated character of 2 ‘The Addams Family’ movies as well as appeared in several TV programmes as guest, competitor, coach and juror. She also published a book in 2015.
