Australian singer-songwriter, actress and model Natalie Jane Imbruglia was born 50 years ago in Sydney, NSW, is divorced and has a son.
After attending secondary school, Natalie proceeded with her studies and took tap and Highland dancing as well as ballet lessons in her teenage years. Besides school, she also appeared in some TV commercials and when she was 16 years old, Natalie decided to quit and focus on acting instead.
In early 1992, Imbruglia was cast in the famous soap opera ‘Neighbours’, portraying the character of Beth Brennan. After 2 years, however, she left and moved to London where she was persuaded by a record manager to record 4 demo tracks, which eventually led Natalie to sign a contract.
Natalie’s debut single ‘Torn’ was released in October 1997 and was a UK no 2 hit for 3 weeks. It was followed by her debut album a month later. ‘Torn’ became popular in the US 3 months later after a radio station started playing it and other stations followed. To give her album a good boost, Imbruglia performed in numerous shows in different countries like the UK, US and Australia.
Up to 2009, she released two more albums which were well received, however, her 4th one was not successful. In view of this, Natalie decided to take a break from music and concentrated on her acting career once again. In fact, she starred in 4 movies, appeared in some TV shows and performed in theatrical play. In addition, Natalie modelled in various commercials of clothing, cosmetics, jewellery and accessories.
In 2015, Imbruglia reprised her music career and released her 5th album. Six years later, in 2021, her 6th and final studio album came out. A live album was released last year in 2024. She embarked on 5 tours between 1998 and 2022 and was a supporting act for Simply Red in 2015 and 2016, and also for The Corrs in 2023 and 2024.
Natalie is an avid philanthropist and supports various charitable organisations particularly regarding breast cancer, poverty and clinical depression, amongst others.
During her career so far, Imbruglia won 20 awards, including 8 ARIA Music, 1 MTV Europe Music and a Billboard Music.
