CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY TODAY... OLIVIA LEWIS

CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY TODAY... OLIVIA LEWIS

Maltese singer Olivia Lewis was born 44 years ago and is from Qormi.

At a very young age, she began to show interest in singing and commenced taking lessons.  Later on, she participated in several song festivals and was very successful, so much so that she won a large number of trophies.

When she was 14, Olivia took part in the Song for Europe for the very first time, as a backing vocalist.  The following year, she also acted as backing vocal to William Mangion’s song ‘This Time’.  She could not yet participate in the contest due to being under the permitted age.

Olivia then began to concentrate on various music genres, particularly soul and R & B and listened to big artists like Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin, amongst others.  Some years passed and she learnt to sing jazz and even performed in the famous Malta Jazz Festival.

Lewis participated 11 times in the Malta Song for Europe, the yearly singing competition which leads to the song that would be representing Malta for the annual Eurovision Song Contest.  She succeeded in winning the 2007 edition with the song ‘Vertigo’ and represented Malta later on that year, placing 25th.

Olivia also performed in various European countries’ music festivals and won first place twice and second place once.  Her first single was released in 2005, followed by her first album the year after.  In 2013, Olivia won the ‘Festival Internazzjonali tal-Kanzunetta Maltija’ with the song ‘Hawn mill-Gdid’.

Some of Olivia’s other songs include ‘You’re the One’, ‘Only for You’, ‘Give Me Wings’ and Deja Vu’.
