CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY TODAY... PAT BENATAR

American rock singer/songwriter Pat Benatar was born 71 years ago in New York City as Patricia Mae Andrzejewski, is married and has 2 children.

Whilst an elementary school student, Pat showed interest in theatre and started taking voice lessons.  She sang her first song at 8 years old and later as a teenager, took part in a school stage play and sang a Christmas song during a festive event.  Afterwards, she had planned to enrol with a private performing arts conservatory, however, changed her mind and took a health course at university.  After just a year, she left to get married and found a bank teller job.

Some time later, Pat left the Bank as she wanted to become a singer, and managed to find work in a nightclub as a singing waitress.  There she met a pianist, formed a duo which later increased to a group of 10 members and soon became popular.  This also led to Pat’s first single release in 1974, called ‘Day Gig’.  The following year, she and her husband moved to New York and she regularly performed in night clubs, participated in a rock musical and entered a Halloween contest.  Eventually, Pat was offered a record contract and her debut album came out in 1979 and was very successful.

Since her first album to date, Benatar had 61 albums, 40 singles and 36 music videos.  Some of her most popular hits which featured in the US Billboard Top 100 charts include ‘Hit me with your best Shot’, ‘Treat me Right’, ‘Fire and Ice’, ‘Shadows of the Night’, ‘Little too Late’, ‘Love is a Battlefield’, ‘We Belong’, ‘Invincible’ and ‘All Fired Up’, amongst others.  During all these years, she embarked on 35 tours, not just across the US but also worldwide, the most recent one in 2023.  Apart from music, Pat appeared in several TV shows, concerts, a movie and stage performances.  She has also published a memoir in 2010.

To date, Pat received 4 Grammy Awards and 3 American Music Awards, and was also inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.
