American actor, filmmaker and podcast host Robert Hepler Lowe was born 61 years ago in Charlottesville, Virginia, is married and has 2 children.
As a kid, Rob attended junior high school in Ohio where he grew up and then moved with his mum and younger brother to California. There he continued his studies in a public high school where he met actor Charlie Sheen.
In 1976, when was 12 years old, Lowe made his acting debut in a theatrical production and 3 years later, was cast in a TV sitcom called ‘A New Kind of Family’ in a total of 11 episodes. His breakthrough movie role was when he interpreted the character of Sodapop Curtis in the 1983 crime drama film ‘The Outsiders’.
Over the years, Rob starred in numerous movies of different genres, both on the big and the small screen, as well as various TV productions including sitcoms, variety shows, documentaries, etc. He also voiced animated film characters, acted as director and/or executive producer as well as hosted a few programmes . Moreover, he appeared in 3 music videos and a video game. Some of his most significant roles were in ‘St Elmo’s Fire’, ‘About Last Night…’, ‘Square Dance’, ‘The Stand’, ‘The West Wing’, ‘Stir of Echoes: the Homecoming’, ‘The Bad Seed’, ‘Brothers & Sisters’, ‘Parks & Recreation’, ‘The Grinder’, ‘Code Black’, ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ and ‘The Floor’. He is currently filming an upcoming movie named ‘The Third Parent’.
Apart from acting, Lowe has published 2 books, launched a men’s skincare line as well as a perfume product line. Rob is a philanthropist and supports a charitable institution regarding breast cancer research and education. He has also founded another non-profit organisation regarding government transparency and land use planning.
In his 46-year career, Rob received 4 awards including 2 Screen Actors’ Guild. He was also honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2015.
