Irish actress, producer and author Roma Downey was born 64 years ago in Derry, Northern Ireland, is married and has a daughter.

After attending grammar school as a kid, she wished to become a painter and studied art and drama at university, obtaining a degree.  Later, she moved to London to study acting.

Roma’s career started by joining a theatrical group in Dublin, and together they performed a three-act play around the US.  She was noted by an agent who told her that she had a successful career there, so she found a job and later managed to get roles in shows on Broadway and other popular theatres.

In 1991, Downey was cast in the TV miniseries ‘A Woman named Jackie’ where she interpreted the character of first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.  Afterwards, she had roles in a few TV movies.  Then in 1994, Roma was offered the role of angel Monica in the famous series ‘Touched by an Angel’ alongside Della Reese and John Dye.  This production ran from 9 years until 2003 with a total of 214 episodes.

Concurrently, Roma starred in a film and several TV movies.  Afterwards, she proceeded with her career and acted in more movies and TV series, as well as produced 6 TV movies, 6 TV series and 4 films.  In 1999, she even released a CD named ‘Healing Angel’ and has published numerous books.

Roma supports and is the spokesperson of the charitable institution named ‘Operation Smile’, and has joined them on their several missions in different countries.

During her career so far, Downey received a TV Guide and an IFTA award, as well as the Anti-Defamation League’s Entertainment Industry Award along with her husband.  Moreover, in 2021, she was appointed as Officer of the Order of the British Empire for her services in the community, arts and drama in her native Ireland.
