CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY TODAY...SIMON LE BON

Simon John Charles Le Bon was born on 27th October 1958 in Hertfordshire, England, is married and has 3 children.  He is best known as the lead singer of the band Duran Duran.

At the age of 6, his mum took him to do a TV advert as she thought he had an artistic talent.  Simon sang in the local church’s choir and also studied acting.  After finishing grammar and high school, he attended an art course followed by drama lessons at university.

Prior to becoming a member of Duran Duran, Simon worked in a theatre as well as on a kibbutz, appeared in some TV commercials, performed in various theatrical productions and sang in a punk group.

Duran Duran originally formed in 1978, but the lead singer left after just a year.  They rehearsed in a nightclub and Simon’s ex-girlfriend introduced him to the band members, claiming that he was a very good singer.  He then joined the group and soon they started touring the country and became famous after releasing their first album in 1981.  In the next 3 years, an album per year was issued.  They had numerous hits like ‘Girls on Film’, ‘Rio’, ‘Hungry like the Wolf’, ‘Save a Prayer’, ‘The Reflex’, ‘New Moon on Monday’, ‘Union of the Snake’ and ‘The Wild Boys’.

In 1984, Simon was one of the numerous artists who recorded the single for charity ‘Do they know it’s Christmas?’.  At that time, Duran Duran were on a career break, however, Simon went on to form the group ‘Arcadia’ with two other members of Duran Duran and also released an album.  They had a Top 10 hit single named ‘Election Day’.

Duran Duran reunited in 1986 and from that time to the present released 12 more albums.

During his career, Simon worked on solo projects and collaborated with various musicians like singers and DJs by composing songs as well as providing them with vocals.  He also received 3 Ivor Novello Awards for his contributions to British music.
