American singer Christina Aguilera was born 43 years ago as Christina Maria Aguilera in New York city, is engaged and has 2 children. She is also a songwriter, TV personality and actress.
As a kid, Christina began to show interest in music, which gradually increased after she listened to her grandma’s soul and blues singers’ records. She eventually started to practice singing and taking part in talent competitions, even on TV shows.
In 1991, Aguilera auditioned for a variety show but failed to qualify, however, the following year, she was contacted by the show’s producers to audition again and was chosen amongst 15000 candidates to perform in the programme. Five years later, Christina travelled to Japan with the aim of pursuing a music career. There she recorded a song with a Japanese singer as well as toured the country with him, but failed to reach the expected success. That same year, she went to Romania as a representative of the US in a singing contest but was once again unsuccessful in attracting the audience.
Aiming to obtain a record contract, Christina recorded and sent several demo tapes to different record companies and managed to achieve it. So she began working on her debut album which was then released in 1999. It was a huge success and she immediately became a teen pop idol. This album included the international hit ‘Genie in a Bottle’. Her 2nd and 3rd albums, one in the Spanish language and the other Christmas-themed, came out in the year 2000, rendering Aguilera more popular, and she also embarked on her first concert tour.
Afterwards, Christina changed her image and concentrated on new projects. In the last 2 decades, she had 12 more albums and 36 singles, excluding tracks with other artists, promotional singles and other charted songs. Apart from music, she also starred/lent her voice in movies as well as appeared in numerous TV programmes.
Aguilera is also known for her humanitarian works and over the years has supported various charitable institutions including the environment, world hunger, domestic violence and LGBT rights, amongst others.
During her career so far, Christina won an impressive 237 awards out of 522 nominations, amongst which are 5 Grammy and 7 MVPA awards, plus State honours and a World Record.
