Singer Edoardo Bennato was born on 23rd July 1946 in Naples, Italy. He also writes songs and plays various instruments including the harmonica, kazoo, pedal tambourine and 3 types of guitars.
From a young age, he was inspired by several renowned artists like B B King, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and Paul Anka, amongst others. In 1958, he created the ‘Trio Bennato’ together with his 2 brothers who are also musicians.
They began to perform in various places and a year later appeared for the first time on a TV programme. A few months later, they were even called to perform on a South-American cruise.
In 1965, Edoardo graduated and moved to Milan, aiming to enter the music world. He then contacted a record company, was offered a contract and his first ’45 giri’ was released.
During the 70s, Edoardo wrote several songs for other artists like Bruno Lauzi, Bobby Solo & Michele. Meanwhile, in 1973, his first album came out and he started considering himself as a ‘one-man band’, singing and playing several instruments simultaneously.
For the next 3 years, a new album was released every year, but real success arrived in 1977 with the album ‘Burattino senza Fili’, which includes the popular hit ‘Il Gatto e la Volpe’.
Edoardo took a 3-year ‘break’ but then came all out with 2 new albums in just a month, which surprisingly sold over a million copies.
In 1989, he had a great hit named ‘Viva La Mamma’ and a year later, Edoardo, together with singer Gianna Nannini, sang the official FIFA World Cup song ‘Un’Estate Italiana’ which was also a big hit, on the occasion of this event which was held in his native Italy.
During his +45-year career, Edoardo had 45 albums published as well as numerous videos. He also wrote 2 books and won a couple of awards.
