TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY... ENZO GUSMAN

Maltese singer, radio and TV personality Enzo Gusman was born in Sliema on 9th August 1947 and passed away on 18th December 2021.  He was married to Carmen and had 2 daughters.

His music career commenced on a radio programme called ‘Tic Tac’, after he was discovered by Maltese comedian/actor Johnnie Navarro, who invited him to become a resident singer on his programme.  He was also the lead singer of the group ‘The Boys’.  In 1965, he started a banking job which he continued also after moving to Canada.

Gusman took part in many song contests both in Malta and around the world, including Greece, Japan, Turkey, Egypt, Bulgaria, Chile, East Germany and Ireland.  He won 5 times the Malta Song Festival and also succeeded in winning some international awards as well.

In addition, Enzo was honoured with a special appreciation award for his substantial involvement in Maltese music at the ‘Ghanja tal’Poplu’ Festival.

His songs were mostly written by himself and are still popular in his home country to this day.  These include ‘Il-Festa tar-Rahal’, ‘M’Ghadekx li Kont’ u ‘Ghaziz Missier’, amongst others.

In December 2021, Enzo passed away in his Canada home at the age of 74.
