TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY...FEARGAL SHARKEY

 

Sean Feargal Sharkey was born on 13th August 1958 in Derry, Northern Ireland and is married.  He is a singer, musician and an executive in the music industry.

When he was a teen, Feargal became a member of the rock band ‘The Undertones’, and they had various songs which were successful in the UK like ‘My Perfect Cousin’ and ‘Here Comes the Summer’.  After 8 years, however, the group disbanded and Feargal became the group ‘Assembly’s singer prior to starting a solo career.

Feargal’s first single ‘Listen to your Father’ was released in 1984, in collaboration with a member of the group ‘Madness’.  Then, in September 1985, he rose to fame with the worldwide number one hit ‘A Good Heart’, followed by another successful hit ‘You Little Thief’ the year after.  Two more albums were issued in 1988 and 1991 which were also well received.

From 1992 till the present day, Feargal ‘retired’ from singing and entered the music industry business.  He also received several awards and honours, amongst which he was appointed as Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2019.

Sharkey is also an activist with regards to campaigns against pollution of British rivers.

During his singing career, Feargal released 3 albums and 12 singles.
