TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY...FISH

Derek William Dick, known by his stage name Fish, was born 64 years ago in Midlothian, Scotland and is a singer and actor.  He married three times and has a daughter.

When he was a kid, Fish showed interest in various rock bands and artists of the 60’s and 70’s, particularly David Bowie, Genesis and Pink Floyd, amongst others.  His very first performance was in 1980, when he sang in a pub.  Later that year, he auditioned for a band which proved successful.  Then, in 1981, he became the lead singer of the rock group ‘Marillion’.  The most popular songs released by the band are ‘Kayleigh’, ‘Lavender’ and ‘Incommunicado’, which were all top-ten UK hits.

Fish decided to continue his singing career as a solo artist and so he left the group and in 1990 released his first solo album, to which contributed many famous musicians.  In the last three decades, numerous studio, compilation, live, video and dvd albums were released.

Fish also performed as an actor in several movies and TV series as well as participated in and hosted some TV shows.  He even won a Silver Award and a Gold World Medal.
