TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY... GIANNI TOGNI

Italian singer Gianni Togni was born 67 years ago in the capital city of Rome and is also a songwriter and composer.

Gianni’s career began in 1975 with his debut album ‘In una simile circostanza’, with featured tracks written by a school mate.  He also used to support the famous Italian group ‘Pooh’ during their concerts.

Five years later, Togni became popular with the number one Italian hit single ‘Luna’ (meaning Moon).  For the rest of the 80s, 7 more albums were released, which proved very successful and rendered Gianni more famous.  Amongst the tracks found in these albums there are ‘Semplice’, ‘Attimi’, ‘Vivi’ and ‘Giulia’.  One of the albums in question was even published as a compact disc.  Also, the 1988 album named ‘Bersaglio Mobile’ was much different from the previous ones, more elaborated and sophisticated, and included works by various famous musicians.

During the 90s, Gianni had 3 more albums, composed 2 songs for Italian artist Massimo Ranieri and even wrote a musical plus other music for both theatre and TV.

After a 9-year hiatus, Togni got back to the music scene with a new album and in the last 2 decades released 4 more, plus 2 singles.  He also composed the soundtrack for an Italian movie, as well as composed lyrics and music for a musical.  In 2017, Gianni won the Lunezia Prize for the music and artistry of his songs.
