American actor, producer and director James Brolin was born 85 years ago as Craig Kenneth Bruderlin in Los Angeles, California, is married to singer and actress Barbara Streisand and has 3 children, one of whom is actor Josh Brolin.

As a kid, James loved animals and was also interested in model airplanes, so much so that he commenced building them and eventually flying them when he was just 10 years old.  When he became a teenager, he liked to go to the cinema and was really intrigued by actor James Dean.  Meanwhile, James attended high school and after graduating, he continued his studies at college and then went to university where he studied drama.

Brolin’s career began in 1961 when he starred in an episode of a TV series called ‘Follow the Sun’.  After 2 other TV guest appearances, he made his big screen debut in the movie ‘Take Her, She’s Mine’.  For the rest of the 60s, he acted in 6 more films and 9 TV series, with his most significant role being that of Steven Kiley in the medical drama series ‘Marcus Welby MD’.  He portrayed this character from 1969 until 1976 in a total of 172 episodes.

In the next decade, James was offered more important roles and starred in movies like ‘Skyjacked’, ‘Westworld’, ‘Gable and Lombard’, ‘The Car’, ‘Capricorn One’ and ‘The Amityville Horror’.  Meanwhile, he also appeared in 4 TV productions.

During the 80s, Brolin was cast in 5 films and 7 TV series/movies.  In particular, he interpreted Peter McDermott in the then-famous soap opera ‘Hotel’ in a total of 115 episodes between 1983 and 1988.

Since 1990 to date, James continued with his career and starred in 30 movies and 30 TV programmes.  Apart from acting, he also directed/produced 4 of them.  Some of these include ‘Traffic’, ‘The Alibi’, ‘Standing Ovation’, ‘Love, Wedding, Marriage’, ‘The Steps’, ‘Extreme’, ‘Pensacola: Wings of Gold’, ‘Blackout’, ‘Life in Pieces’ and ‘Royal Hearts’.  James also voiced a few animated movie characters and hosted a TV show.

During his long career, Brolin received 2 Golden Globe and a Primetime Emmy Award.
