TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY... JOHN TURTURRO

American actor John Michael Turturro was born 67 years ago in New York City, is married and has 2 children.  He is also a film director, producer and screen writer.

As a teenager, John attended university where he majored in theatre.  He proceeded with his education and managed to obtain a Masters degree in Fine Arts.

John’s big screen debut was in the 1980 biographical sports drama film ‘Raging Bull’, in which he had a non-spoken role as an extra.  Three years later, he created the title role of the play ‘Danny and the Deep Blue Sea’, repeating it the following year.  In 1985, he had a significant supporting role in the action movie ‘To Live and Die in L.A.’ alongside Willem Dafoe.

Turturro was then noticed by director Spike Lee, who was so impressed by his interpretation in the 1987 movie ‘Five Corners’ that he offered him a role in his 1989 film ‘Do the Right Thing’.  Afterwards, they continued collaborating together in 9 more movies including ‘Jungle Fever’, ‘Clockers’, ‘He Got Game’ and ‘She Hate Me’, amongst others.

From the beginning of the 90s to date, John starred in around 75 films, voiced several animated movie characters and wrote, directed and/or produced some of them as well.  He also appeared in various TV series, video game, audio book and acted in 8 theatrical plays too.

During his career so far, John received 7 awards which are a Primetime Emmy, a Gotham, 2 Cannes Film Festival, a Venice Film Festival, a Sundance Film Festival and a Berlin Film Festival.
