English singer-songwriter, record producer, musician and dancer Catherine Bush was born 66 years ago in Bexleyheath, Kent, is married and has a son.
When she was 11, Kate started to learn the piano, organ and the violin and eventually began to write songs. When she was in Grammar School, her family, who were also musical artists, recorded more than 50 of Kate’s songs on a cassette tape. At first, it was refused by record labels but then it came in the hands of the guitarist of Pink Floyd. He was so impressed that he contacted 16-year old Kate and helped her record 3 songs.
Meanwhile, she proceeded with her education and took dance classes and mime training. Eventually, she left school and continued writing songs as well performing in London public houses with her group, KT Bush Band.
In 1978, her first album was released, which included the international hit single ‘Wuthering Heights’. Her second album followed, which however, was not as successful as expected. So, to give her career a boost, Kate did a lot of promotions plus a 6-week tour. She even created a publishing and a management business.
During her +47-year career, Kate had 20 albums and 36 singles plus several box sets, music videos and extended plays. Amongst her most popular hits there are ‘Baboushka’, ‘Running up that Hill’, ‘Wuthering Heights’, ‘King of the Mountain’ and ‘Don’t give Up’.
Kate sang a few of her songs in duet with other artists and also collaborated with various musicians by producing songs for them as well as acting as backing/vocalist. In addition, several singers helped Bush with her own albums including Prince, Elton John and David Gilmour.
So far, Kate achieved 27 awards, amongst which there are a Brit, a BMI London and a Q Award, amongst others. In 2013, she was assigned as an officer of the British order of chivalry for her music works and in 2023 was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
