Maltese singer Kevin James Borg was born 37 years ago in Floriana, but lives and works in Sweden.
In 2007, Kevin moved to Sweden and a year later participated in the Swedish singing contest ‘Idol’. He managed to arrive to the 12 live finals but was not amongst the best competitors. Yet, he tried his very best and gave impressive performances, so much so that week after week he became more and more popular with the viewers. In fact, he made it to the final two and eventually won the contest, becoming the 5th Swedish idol. Among the tracks he interpreted during the competition there were ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ by Bon Jovi, ‘The Way you make me Feel’ by Michael Jackson and ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’ by Ricky Martin.
Just a week after this victory, Kevin’s debut single ‘With every bit of Me’ was released, which was also the contest winning song. It was a number one hit in Sweden and topped the charts for 2 successive weeks. Then, about 3 months later, his first album was issued and reached number 3 on the Swedish charts. Consequently, a second single ‘Street Lights’ was released and was a Top 10 Swedish hit. Two more singles were released and in 2013 Borg returned to Malta.
In fact, Kevin competed in that year’s Malta Eurovision Song Contest with the track ‘Needing You’, placing 2nd. This was not the first time he participated in this contest; in fact he took part in 2006 and 2007, arriving in 8th and 4th place respectively.
In 2016, he performed in the musical ‘Grease’ as well as released his 5th single ‘Young at Heart’. Once again, Borg participated in the MESC, arriving in 3rd place with the song ‘Follow’.
