TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY...LAURA PAUSINI

Italian singer, songwriter and TV personality Laura Pausini was born on 16th May 1974 in Faenza, region of Emilia-Romagna, is married and has a daughter.

As a child, she was encouraged by her dad, who was a pianist, to start singing.  In fact, he used to take her along with him in restaurants and piano bars where he performed and at 11 years old, she gave her very first live performance.  At that same time, Laura joined a church choir to ameliorate her singing.

Two years later, with the help of her father, her first demo album was recorded and released and in 1991 participated in two music festivals.  She continued to take part in music competitions and was noticed by a producer/songwriter who then introduced her to a manager and offered her to sing ‘La Solitudine’ which he co-wrote.  With this track Laura competed in the 1993 San Remo Music Festival and won 1st place.  This song has since become one her most iconic international hits.

After this enormous success, Laura focused on her first album whilst still attending high school.  It was released that same year and did extremely well both in her native Italy as well as in other European and Latin-American countries.

‘Strani Amori’ was the song with which she participated for the 2nd time in the San Remo Festival the following year, placing 3rd.  Some months later, Laura issued her first album in the Spanish language which was very well received.  She then decided to release an album in English but it did not manage to enter the charts.

2023 marks the 30th anniversary of Laura’s singing career.  During these 3 decades, she released 26 albums, 62 singles and 58 music videos as well as gave nearly 1000 concerts around the globe, and still going.

Pausini also appeared in several TV productions including documentaries and talent shows.  Last year, she also co-hosted the 66th edition of the Eurovision song contest held in her country.

So far, Laura has received an impressive 436 awards out of 548 nominations!  These include a Golden Globe and a Grammy, 4 Latin Grammy, 5 World Music and 7 Telegatto, amongst many, many others.  She was also inducted in the Walk of Fame Europe, was appointed as World Ambassador of Emilia-Romagna and Commander Order of Merit of Italy.

With her outstanding, potent voice, Laura is considered as one of the best Italian singers of all time.  Some of her most popular hits include ‘La Solitudine’, ‘Strani Amori’, ‘Non c’e`’ ‘Tra te e il Mare’, ‘Resta in Ascolto’ and ‘Io Canto’, to name a few.
