TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY... MARCO MASINI

Italian singer Marco Masini was born 59 years ago in Florence, region of Tuscany.  He is also a musician, pianist and songwriter.

At only 3 years old, Marco began showing interest in music after he got a toy piano for Christmas and started taking music lessons soon after.  Whilst in high school, he formed a band named Errata Corrige together with some friends.

He left school at 16, against his family wishes, and for a while worked in his dad’s bar.  He had a lot of conflicts with him which worried his mum a lot.  She then discovered she had cancer, and her husband had no other option but to sell the bar.  Meanwhile, Marco left for the army and returned home just a day before his mum passed away.  This naturally made Marco deeply sad as he wished he could have spent more time with her.

Marco’s music career commenced in 1988 when his first 45 rpm was released. Then, in 1990, he competed in the prestigious yearly event of the San Remo Music Festival with the song ‘Disperato’ and won 1st place in the ‘New Artists’ category.  From that year to date, Marco competed 8 times more and won the 2004 edition with the song ‘L’Uomo Volante’.

Over the years he gained worldwide success and released numerous albums spread amongst studio, compilation and live, plus many singles.  Amongst his most popular tracks there are ‘Disperato’, ‘Perche` lo fai’, ‘T’Innamorerai’, ‘Vaffanculo’, ‘Paura D’Amare’, ‘La Liberta`’, ‘Bella Stronza’, ‘Principessa’ and ‘L’Uomo Volante’.

Marco collaborated with other music artists, appeared in numerous TV shows as guest, judge, tutor, contestant etc as well as acted in some movies.  He also wrote 3 books.

During his 30-year career so far, Masini won about 22 awards including 2 Telegatto and 3 Lunezia, amongst others.
