TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY...MICK JAGGER

Sir Michael Philip Jagger was born on 26th July 1943 in Dartford, England and has 8 children.  He is a singer, songwriter, actor and film producer, best known as the lead singer of the famous group ‘The Rolling Stones’.

Since he was a child, Mick loved to sing.  He was part of the church choir and listened to music on radio, TV and films.  When he was a teenager and as a young adult, Mick was a member of a few bands and in 1962 he created ‘The Rolling Stones’.

Initially, the band played gratis in a London club and later on in a hotel.  They had two number one hits: ‘It’s all over Now’ and ‘Little Red Rooster’.  Then, Mick and another band member began to write songs and had another couple of hits.  After that, they reached international stardom with worldwide hit ‘(I can’t get no) Satisfaction’ in 1965.  Five years later, Jagger also performed in a couple of films.

In the early 70s, the group travelled to France and Mick learned the guitar.  A tour to the US took place in 1972, with Jagger revealing a change in look and clothing style.

During the 80s, Mick decided on a solo career, albeit still issuing albums and touring with ‘The Rolling Stones’.  His first album ‘She’s the Boss’ was released in 1985, was well received and included the Top Ten single ‘Just another Night’.

That same year, he sang in duet with Tina Turner and David Bowie with the songs ‘It’s only Rock and Roll’ and ‘Dancing in the Street’ respectively.

During his 62-year career, Jagger had 8 albums and 25 singles as a solo artist alone, apart from those with the band.  In 2002, her Majesty the Queen honoured him with knighthood for his music services.

He is also considered as one of the most famous and significant lead singers in rock and roll history, particularly for his singular voice and dynamic shows.
