TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY... MIETTA

Italian singer Mietta was born 54 years ago as Daniela Miglietta in Taranto, and is also an actress and novelist.

As a teenager, Mietta started to show interest in music and attended a music and drama school.  She even formed a group named ‘Ciak’ with another 2 girls.  Her career took off in 1988, when she participated in the yearly San Remo Music Festival with the track ‘Sogno’.  Although it was not a winning entry, she was noticed by another famous artist, Amedeo Minghi, who composed the song ‘Canzoni’ for her to compete in the SRMF the following year in the ‘New Comers’ category which she managed to win.

In 1990, she returned once again to the Festival, and this time she sung ‘Vattene Amore’ in duet with Amedeo Minghi, arriving in 3rd place.  This track also won an international song contest and ten gold records.  That same year, Mietta’s debut album was released and was very successful across many European countries.

Mietta competed 5 more times in the SRMF, as well as in various other music festivals like Azzurro, Cantagiro, Festival Italiano, Festivalbar, Un Disco Per L’Estate and Vota la Voce, of which she won first place 4 times.

In all, she had 11 studio albums of different music genres including soul, jazz, pop rock and R&B and also covered several songs.  Apart from music, Mietta acted in 4 movies and some TV series, as well as appeared in several talent, game and variety shows as contestant, performer and judge.  She also wrote and published 2 novels.

During her career so far, Mietta received 15 awards, including 3 Gold Telegatto, 1 Silver Telegatto, a Mia Martini Award and an Ischia Music Award, amongst others.
