Ronan Patrick John Keating was born 46 years ago in Dublin, Ireland, is married and has 5 children. He is a singer, songwriter and TV personality, best known as one of the singers of the 90s boy band ‘Boyzone’.
As a kid, he practised athletics, competed in various tournaments and even won the 200m competition. When he was 16, Ronan joined the band ‘Boyzone’ and together they performed in several pubs and clubs.
A year later, in 1994, the group recorded 2 cover versions of the songs ‘Working my way back to You’ and ‘Lover me for a Reason’. Until 1999, the band released 4 albums and 17 singles and in the year 2000 the group broke up.
Whilst still in the band, Ronan released the song for the movie ‘Notting Hill’ – ‘When you say nothing at All’, which was an instant number one UK hit. This led him to become a successful solo artist and in 2000 his debut album came out, featuring the song mentioned above and ‘Life is a Rollercoaster’, ‘The way you make me Feel’ and ‘Lovin’ each Day’.
Until 2006, Keating released 4 more albums which included tracks sung in duet with renowned artists like Elton John and the Bee Gees, amongst others. ‘Boyzone’ reunited in 2007 to perform in a fundraising event and afterwards toured the UK as well as released a greatest hits collection.
In the next decade, Ronan released 12 more albums and 24 singles. He has performed in front of prominent people like the Pope, King Charles and the Swedish Royal family, and also sang in numerous prestigious as well as charity events, hosted and guest appeared in several TV shows.
Ronan is an avid philanthropist and has founded the Marie Keating Foundation, named after his mother who died from breast cancer. He participated in the London Marathon and swam the Irish Sea to raise funds for cancer research, as well as climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds to help towards famine in Ethiopia.
He received a World Music Award for best-selling Irish Artist and has even entered the Guinness Book of World Records for having 30 continuous songs in the UK Top 10 singles chart. Also in recognition of his music and philanthropy services, Ronan was awarded with an honorary doctorate from university.
