TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY... TIZIANO FERRO

Italian singer Tiziano Ferro was born 44 years ago in Latina in the Lazio Region and is separated.  He is also a songwriter, producer and author.

Tiziano started showing interest in music when he was a kid, after he was gifted with a toy keyboard.  It also helped him compose his initial songs when he was just 7 years old.  In later years, he took guitar and piano lessons and at the age of 16, he joined a gospel choir.  Meanwhile, he played in karaoke contests as well as piano bars.

In 1997, Ferro was among the participants intended to be chosen for the yearly San Remo Festival, however, he was eliminated in the first round.  He tried his luck again the following year, and though he made it to the final, failed to win the contest.  Albeit, something did turn out positive from this competition, as Tiziano met 2 record producers and they collaborated together from then on.  In 1999, he joined a band named ‘Sottotono’ as a backing vocalist and toured around his country with them.

Ferro’s debut single ‘Xdono’ was released in June 2001, which featured in his debut album a few months afterwards.  It was very successful not just in his native Italy but also in several countries around Europe.  It was also recorded in Spanish for the benefit of Spain and Latin American countries.

Since then, Tiziano released 7 more studio albums, a compilation and a video album, all of which peaked to number one on the Italian charts.  He also had 29 singles, 28 music videos and a Box Set.  Moreover, Ferro wrote/co-wrote numerous songs for other artists like Iva Zanicchi, Carmen Consoli, Giusy Ferreri and Syria, amongst others.  He also sang in duet with several singers, as well as helped with the production of their albums.

Apart from music, Tiziano wrote a novel as well as appeared in some TV shows and voiced a couple of animated characters.

During his career so far, Ferro received 39 awards, including 7 Wind Music, a World Music, 3 MTV Italian Music, a Grammy and 2 Latin Grammy, amongst others.
