
American actress and producer Winona Ryder was born 54 years ago as Winona Laura Horowitz in Winona County, Minnesota. She is in a relationship and does not have any children.
As a kid, Winona attended Junior high school and at the age of 12 enrolled in a Conservatory Theatre and began studying acting.
Ryder made her big screen debut in the 1986 coming-of-age romantic-sports movie ‘Lucas’ alongside Corey Haim and Charlie Sheen. Two years later, she rose to fame when she was cast in the film ‘Beetlejuice’ and had a major role in ‘Heathers’. She also starred in ‘1969’ and ‘Great Balls of Fire!’
During the 90s, Winona acted in 17 movies which enabled her to become an established actress. Some of these include ‘Edward Scissorhands’ alongside Johnny Depp, ‘The Age of Innocence’, ‘The House of Spirits’, ‘Little Women’, ‘The Crucible’, ‘Alien Resurrection’, starring also Sigourney Weaver, and ‘Girl, Interrupted’ (also executive producer). Also in that decade, Ryder started performing in TV productions and over the years continued to appear in films, sitcoms, series, variety shows as well as voiced animated characters.
From the year 2000 to date, Winona starred in 30 movies of different genres and 9 TV programmes. To name a few: ‘Scanner Darkly’, ‘The Ten’, ‘The Informers’, ‘Star Trek’, ‘Black Swan’, ‘Stay Cool’, ‘The Dilemma’, ‘The Iceman’, ‘Homefront’ and ‘Destination Wedding’. Since 2016, she has been interpreting the main character of Joyce Byers in the TV series ‘Stranger Things’. Apart from acting, Winona appeared in some commercials and music videos.
During her career so far, Ryder won 25 awards out of 77 nominations including a Blockbuster Entertainment, a Golden Globe, a Jupiter, a Screen Actors Guild and 2 National Board of Review. In the year 2000, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Since her 20s, Winona has supported the American Indian College Fund which helps Native Americans who have a low income to go to university.
