Saturday 14th May was a memorable night for the Ukranians, when the group Kalush Orchestra representing their country was the winner of this prestigious event with the song ‘Stefania’ written by the group members themselves.
The 3 hosts Laura Pausini, Mika and Alessandro Cattelan made sure that all the people present and those watching on social media and TV experienced a wonderful evening with a spectacular show, lights and the impeccable performances by Laura and Mica, entertaining the audience with their most popular hits.
The votes were split 50% by jury and the other 50% from the public. Primarily, the UK were in the lead but after the hosts announced Ukraine’s public votes of 439, they shot up to 1st place and won the contest with 631 points. With this amount of votes, they became the first country to ever receive such a high figure from televoting in the ESC history.
Ukraine were followed by the UK, Spain, Sweden and Serbia in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th place respectively.
