Last week, the 5th edition of the much-awaited Maltese Song Festival Muzika Muzika was held. Once again, this prestigious event took place at the MFCC, Ta’ Qali for 3 consecutive nights between Thursday and Saturday and broadcasted on Malta’s local television channel TVM. It was again hosted by Clare Agius, Keith Demicoli and Moira Delia.
During the first evening, the 16 qualifying songs were interpreted. Unlike previous editions, there was no elimination phase and instead the members of the audience could vote through the ‘Muzika Muzika’ app, eventually leading to determining the winner on the final night. On the second evening, the participants sang classic Maltese hits in duet with established and/or veteran Maltese singers. The third evening was the grand finale when all tracks were sung for the last time.
After the voting from the jury and the public, the winner was announced. This year’s competition was won by Jamie Cardona with the track ‘Stajna Konna Ahna’ (which means ‘It could have been us’) which was written by himself. It was followed by the song ‘Tieghek Jien‘ in second place, sung by Brooke, whilst singer Pamela Bezzina arrived in third place with the song ‘Perfett‘. These participants were honoured with a trophy and will be receiving monetary prizes of Eur20K, Eur10K and Eur5K respectively. Two other awards were presented, one to Ryan Paul Abela for Best Musical Arrangement and the other to Lisa Gauci for Best Interpretation.
Year after year, this spectacular festival is getting more and more popular thanks to the hard work and dedication of all those involved in this high level production. It also enhances the magnificent and unique Maltese language whilst also boosting Maltese music altogether.
