Italian singer-songwriter, composer and producer Amedeo Minghi was born 77 years ago in Rome, is widowed and has 2 daughters.
As a teenager, he created the band ‘I Noemi’ and wrote his first song, with no results. He then decided on a solo career and his first 45 laps was released in 1966. In 1970, he started collaborating with singer Edoardo Vianello and composed some songs for the duo ‘I Vianella’ of which Edoardo was a member.
Amedeo’s debut album came out in 1973 but was not very successful. Two years later, he joined the group ‘I Pandemonium’ and wrote a few songs. International fame was achieved with the song ‘L’Immenso’ in 1976 which sold around 2 million copies worldwide.
For the rest of the 70s, he continued composing songs for other Italian artists like Rita Pavone, Gianni Morandi and Marcella Bella, amongst others. Amedeo left ‘I Pandemonium’ in 1978 and went on to release his second solo album two years later.
In 1983, Amedeo took part in the yearly San Remo Song Festival with the song ‘1950’ but it placed last. Two years later he returned to the Festival, this time as a guest, and sang ‘Il Profumo del Tempo’ in duet with Katia Ricciarelli.
Four more albums followed in the next 4 years, with 1989 bringing a lot of success for Amedeo with the big hit ‘La Vita Mia’. More success was yet to come when Amedeo introduced a new singer, Mietta, with whom he participated in the 1990 San Remo Festival with the number one hit ‘Vattene Amore’. It reached 3rd place and they were honoured with a gold ‘Telegatto’ as well as 10 Platinum Discs.
During the rest of the 90s, the 2000s and 2010s, he participated 6 more times in the Festival but never won. In the year 2000, he wrote the song ‘Un Uomo venuto da Lontano’ dedicated to St Pope John Paul II. He also wrote some songs for several TV series including ‘Fantaghiro`’La Principessa e il Povero’ and ‘Edera’.
In all, Minghi had 18 studio, 5 soundtrack and 5 live albums, the latest one released in 2016. Amedeo also published two books and was appointed as a knight of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy in 2007. He is regarded as one of the most elegant Italian artists.
