German singer-songwriter, producer and TV personality Dieter Bohlen was born 71 years ago as Dieter Gunter Bohlen, is in a relationship and has 6 children.
After finishing secondary school, Dieter attended university where he studied business administration and obtained a degree in 1978. That same year, he founded the duo ‘Monza’ and together released 2 singles which, however, were both unsuccessful. Whilst still a student, Dieter began showing interest in music and started writing songs, which also became his job.
At the beginning of the 80s, Bohlen released a single in English, followed by two more the year after, but they did not make it in the Top 100. He then joined another band named ‘Sunday’ and they performed a song in a tv series.
Between 1982 and 1984, Dieter produced 6 German singles for singer Thomas Anders but they failed to chart, so together they decided to form the famous pop duo ‘Modern Talking’. Until the duo split in 1987, they had many successful hits which topped the German charts, including ‘You’re My Heart, You’re My Soul’, ‘You Can Win If You Want’, ‘Cheri, Cheri Lady’, ‘Brother Louie’ and ‘Atlantis is Calling (S.O.S. for Love). These tracks were also big hits across several European countries as well as in Asia and Africa.
Afterwards, Bohlen founded the solo project ‘Blue System’ which ended in 1997. In addition, over the years, he collaborated with many other artists by writing songs and production of their albums. These include Chris Norman, C. C. Catch, the band Touche, Roy Black, Bonnie Tyler and Nino De Angelo, amongst others.
In 1998, ‘Modern Talking’ reunited and released several successful singles like ‘You are not Alone’ and ‘Win the Race’, but parted ways once again 5 years later in 2003.
Apart from music, Dieter published 5 books, released a perfume and a line of wallpaper as well as created a clothing label. He also signed various advertising deals with several local and international companies, as well as acts as a judge on the popular TV talent shows ‘Pop Idol’, ‘American Idol’ and ‘Das Supertalent’.
During his career so far, Bohlen won 12 awards including 2 Echo a Bambi and a Platin-Otto Life Achievement.
