CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY TODAY... ELIZABETH MCGOVERN

American actress and musician Elizabeth Lee McGovern was born 63 years ago in Evanston, Illinois, is married and has 2 daughters.

When she was 10 year’s old Elizabeth moved to Los Angeles with her family and attended high school, where she took part in stage plays.  She then enrolled with a theatre company and furthered her studies at a private performing arts conservatory with the aim of obtaining a BFA in drama.  Whilst still studying, Mc Govern made her big screen debut in the 1980 movie ‘Ordinary People’, completed school the following year and started performing in theatrical productions.

From then on, Elizabeth proceeded with her career and starred in numerous movies of different genres, as well as TV programmes.  These include ‘Ragtime’ (for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress), ‘Once Upon a time in America’, ‘Johnny Handsome’, ‘She’s Having a Baby’, ‘Woman in Gold’, ‘The Scarlet Pimpernel’, ‘Downton Abbey’, ‘Daphne’ and ‘Freezing’, amongst many others.  In addition, McGovern interpreted various characters in around 30 stage plays, both in the US and the UK, since after she got married, she moved to the UK.  She is cast in an upcoming historical drama movie currently filming, which is a sequel of the 2022 movie Downton Abbey: A New Era and will also appear in another movie ‘And Mrs’ which is scheduled to be released next month.

After many years of studying and playing the guitar, Elizabeth formed the group ‘Sadie and the Hotheads’ and together they released 4 albums between 2007 and 2016.  Elizabeth also released a solo album in 2019.

During her 49-year career, Mc Govern received several awards, including a Screen Actors Guild and a Will Award.
