American singer-songwriter Kim Carnes was born 79 years ago in Los Angeles, California, is married and has 2 sons. She is known for her ‘husky’ voice, which is often compared to the voices of Bonnie Tyler and Rod Stewart.
From a young age, Kim began to write songs and in 1962 made a publishing agreement and recorded demo songs with other artists. In the years that followed, Kim and her husband wrote many songs to a very popular international artist of the time, David Cassidy. They even went on a world tour with him and Carnes also contributed with backing vocals.
During the rest of the 70s, Kim recorded two more albums which were of moderate success. Albeit, her third album won her 2 prizes at the American and the Tokyo Song Festivals.
At the beginning of the 80s, she sang in duet ‘Don’t fall in love with a Dreamer’ with country music singer Kenny Rogers and it was a big hit. But stardom really struck for Kim with the 1981 international number one hit ‘Bette Davis Eyes’ for which she won a Grammy Award for Best Record of the Year.
Afterwards, Kim enjoyed further popularity with solo songs as well as in duet with various other artists like Barbra Streisand and Donna Weiss. She also continued to compose songs both for herself and other singers.
