Swedish singer-songwriter, rapper, DJ and broadcaster Neneh Cherry was born 61 years ago as Neneh Mariann Karlson in Stockholm, is married and has 3 daughters.

In the early 70s, Neneh and her family moved to the US and in later years, when Neneh was 14, she left school and decided to move to the UK.  There she met numerous singers and musicians whom she had already got acquainted to when she went on tours together with her stepdad who was a musician.  Cherry joined several punk-rock bands and also worked as a DJ playing reggae music on a pirate radio station.

In 1982, Neneh embarked on a solo career and released her debut album ‘Raw like Sushi’.  Amongst the tracks included in this album, there are the number one Swedish hit single ‘Buffalo Stance’, which also placed 3rd on the UK and US charts, and the number 5 UK hit ‘Manchild’.

Over the years, Cherry released 5 more studio, 1 live, 1 video, 2 remix albums and 18 singles.  She also collaborated with numerous other artists, both on their works as well as a featured artist.  In particular, she sang in duet the track ‘7 Seconds’ with Youssou N’Dour which was a number one hit in France and Switzerland, and placed 3rd on the UK chart.  Another number one UK hit was ‘Love can build a Bridge’, which Neneh sang with Cher, Eric Clapton and Chrissie Hynde.

Apart from singing, Cherry broadcasted a 6-series radio programme, presented a cookery show on TV, starred in a drama and music film and published an autobiography.  She also worked regularly with a famous fashion stylist and jewellery designer.

During her career so far, Neneh won 8 awards, including 2 Brit, 2 Grammis and a Silver Clef Award.
