CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY TODAY... RICHARD DEAN ANDERSON

American actor and producer Richard Dean Anderson was born 75 years ago in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is presumably single and has a daughter.

As a teenager, he loved to play hockey at school and dreamt of becoming a professional hockey player.  Unfortunately, this dream ended abruptly when he broke both arms during a match at the age of 18.  He was also interested in art, acting and music, particularly jazz and even tempted to become a jazz musician.

He took an acting course at university but quit prior to graduating and then worked different jobs.  Eventually, he got his first movie role in a short film in 1975 and soon after starred in the soap opera ‘General Hospital’ in the role of a doctor for 5 years.

In the next 4 years, Richard Dean acted in more movies and TV shows but real stardom was reached in 1985 when he was the main protagonist of the famous TV series’ MacGyver’, which ran between 1985 and 1992 for a total of 139 episodes.

Richard Dean then produced 2 movies and afterwards was executive producer as well as cast in the science-fiction TV series ‘Stargate SG-1’ for 8 years and 173 episodes.  When this series ended, Anderson starred in various TV movies and series as well as producing them.  He also voiced characters in 2 video games.

Anderson supports several charitable institutions, particularly those concerning children suffering from critical illnesses as well as those with physical and intellectual disabilities and the environment.

During his 37-year career (which ended in 2013), Richard Dean received 2 Saturn Awards for Best Actor on TV and Best Genre TV Actor.  He was also honoured by the US Air Force with a Military Award and granted the title of honorary brigadier general.
