American actress and dancer Rosa Maria Perez was born 60 years ago in Brooklyn, New York and is married with no children.
Rosie had a difficult childhood as since her mum spent some years in jail, she was forced to live in group homes away from her other siblings as well as taken in foster care.
Her career began at the age of 19 as a dancer in a TV variety show. She loved dancing so much that she left school and started attending dance clubs. One day she was noticed by film director Spike Lee who offered her a major role in the 1989 comedy-drama movie ‘Do the right Thing’. Afterwards, she worked as a choreographer as well as segment producer for several famous singers and even debuted on stage in a Broadway play.
From the beginning of the 90s to date, Perez starred in 43 movies, some of which were TV productions. These include ‘Criminal Justice’, ‘Untamed Heart’, ‘Perdita Durango’, ‘King of the Jungle’, ‘Fearless’ and ‘Inside the Rain’. She also appeared in 60 TV programmes like series, talk shows, sitcoms etc, as well as voiced various animated series characters such as ’21 Jump Street’, ‘Frasier’, ‘Widows’, ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ and ‘Pure’. She will be starring in an upcoming series named ‘Before’. Moreover, Rosie appeared in a music video, performed in 4 more theatrical plays and directed/hosted 11 documentaries.
Perez is an Puerto Rican rights activist and is also involved in AIDS campaigns and arts.
During her career so far, Rosie won 5 awards, 4 of which were awarded for Best Supporting Actress in the movie ‘Fearless’.
