Italian singer-songwriter and musician Eros Walter Luciano Ramazzotti was born 61 years ago in Rome, was married twice and has 3 children.
When he was 7 years old, Eros started playing the guitar and later on in his teenage years composed songs, aided by his dad. In 1981, he participated in a music contest with the song ‘Rock 80’, and although he did not win, he made it to the final.
A year later, his first single was released but did not prove successful. Then in 1984, he made a career breakthrough with the hit ‘Terra Promessa’ with which he won the prestigious San Remo Festival in the ‘Newcomers’ category. The subsequent year, he once again participated in the yearly Festival with ‘Una Storia Importante’, placing 6th.
It was in 1986 that Eros finally managed to triumph in the festival with the number one hit ‘Adesso Tu’. From then on, he never looked back and continued releasing albums and touring many European countries. Some of his most popular hits include ‘Piu` bella Cosa’ dedicated to his ex-wife, ‘L’Aurora’ written for his daughter, ‘Cose della Vita’, ‘Musica E’, ‘Se bastasse una Canzone’, ‘Un’emozione per Sempre’, ‘Ti Sposero` Perche`’, ‘Fuoco nel Fuoco’, amongst many others.
Eros also recorded numerous tracks which were sung in duet with famous artists like Tina Turner, Cher, Patsy Kensit, Anastacia, Luciano Pavarotti and Ricky Martin, to name a few. Some of his albums were also released in the Spanish language, apart from his native Italian. Apart from music, he also published two books.
During his +40-year career, Eros had 24 albums and 58 singles. He also won 22 awards including 4 World Music, 3 Wind Music, 3 Telegatto and 3 BMI Latin, amongst others. In 2006, he was appointed Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
Ramazzotti is considered as one the of best-selling Italian artists with estimated sales of over 70 million records worldwide.
