CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY TODAY... DON HENLEY

American singer-songwriter, musician and record producer Don Henley was born 77 years ago as Donald Hugh Henley in Gilmer, Texas, is married and has 3 children.  He is best known as the creator of the rock band ‘Eagles’.

He attended a public high school where he began playing football, however, he quit on his coach’s suggestion due to his small stature, and instead joined to school’s band.  He also joined a Dixieland band, and afterwards formed a band called ‘Four Speeds’, which changed its name 3 more times, as well as its members.  After graduating, he went to University but left to spend time with his dying dad.

In 1971, Don formed the rock band ‘Eagles’, in which he acted as songwriter, co-vocalist as well as drummer, and the following year their debut album was released.  Until the group disbanded in 1980, they had 22 albums and 30 singles which featured various popular hits including 5 US number ones, namely ‘Best of my Love’, ‘One of these Nights’, ‘New Kid in Town’, ‘Hotel California’ and ‘Heartache Tonight’.  During that decade, ‘Eagles’ became very popular and eventually were considered as one of the most successful rock bands globally ever.

Henley then embarked on a solo career and to date released 7 albums and 44 singles and had 5 US Top 20 songs, namely ‘Dirty Laundry’, ‘The Boys of Summer’, ‘All she wants to do is Dance’, ‘Who owns this Place?’ and ‘The End of the Innocence’.  He also featured in singles by other artists like Stevie Nicks, Elton John and Kenny Rogers.

During his 54-year career, Don won numerous awards including 3 Grammy and a Trailblazer, was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame together with the rest of the ‘Eagles’ band and was also honoured with a Doctorate of Music.
