TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY...MATTHEW BRODERICK

 

American actor Matthew Broderick was born 61 years ago in Manhattan, New York.  He is married to actress Sarah Jessica Parker and has 3 children.

As a kid, he went to grade school followed by high school and in later years took acting classes at a non-profit organisation called HB Studio.  There he made his  acting debut in a significant role in a play called ‘Valentine’s Day’ alongside his father who was also an actor.  This was followed by a supporting role in another theatrical production which led him the way to Broadway, after being introduced by a theatre critic.

Matthew’s first big screen appearance was in the 1983 comedy drama movie ‘Max Dugan returns’, but it was the sci-fi film ‘WarGames’ released later that year that made him a real star and in which he was the main protagonist.  For the rest of the 80s, he starred in 5 more movies including ‘Lady Hawke’ and ‘Glory’.

During the 90s, Broderick was cast in 13 movies including ‘The Cable Guy’ opposite Jim Carrey and ‘Election’ alongside Reese Witherspoon.  He also voiced two characters in the animated movies ‘Arabian Knight’, ‘The Lion King’, ‘The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride’.  In addition, Matthew performed in 3 Broadway productions as well as appeared in some TV shows.

In the last 2 decades, he continued with his career and starred in about 25 films, voiced animated characters as well as appeared in several TV productions and theatrical plays.

To date, Matthew received 5 awards, including 2 Tony Awards for Best Featured Actor in a Play and Best Actor in a Musical.
