Italian singer, songwriter and musician Pino Daniele was born in Naples as Giuseppe Daniele on 19th March 1955 and passed away on 4th January 2015.
As a kid, he developed a big passion for music and in his youth, after finishing school and obtaining a degree in Accounts, he learnt to play the guitar on his own and was influenced by several music genres, particularly jazz, blues, pop and Neapolitan.
Pino then created a group named ‘New Jet’ together with his fellow schoolmate, which however, was short-lived and went on to form another band named ‘Batracomiomachia’, with whom he gained significant experience both as a singer as well as a musician.
During the mid-70s, Pino collaborated with other Italian artists as singer and guitarist and in 1976 he joined the notorious jazz-rock band ‘Napoli Centrale’. That same year, a renowned record producer listened to some of Daniele’s songs and was positively impressed, so much so that Pino’s first ’45 giri’ was released, followed by his first debut album the year after. Another album was released during that decade.
Pino’s most successful album was ‘Nero a meta`’ which came out in 1980. His next album released a year later featured collaborations from famous Neapolitan song artists like Tullio de Piscopo and Tony Esposito, amongst others. Afterwards, he changed his music style and focused on world music, including Latin-American and Arabic music.
Daniele wrote several tracks for other Italian artists like Loredana Berte`, Giorgia, Claudio Baglioni and Clementino, amongst others. On the other hand, various international singers covered some of Pino’s songs, including Randy Crawford, Marisa Monte and Isaac Delgado.
Until his demise, Daniele released over 40 more albums and 24 singles. Amongst his most popular songs there are ‘Napule e`’, ‘Je so’ Pazzo’, ‘O Scaraffone’, ‘Quando’ and ‘Amore senza fine’.
Pino passed away on 4th January 2015 from a heart attack at the age of 59.
