TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY... MICHELE ZARRILLO

Italian singer/songwriter, pianist and guitarist Michele Zarrillo was born 68 years ago in Rome, is married and has 3 children.

Michele’s career began in 1972 as a 15-year old singer-guitarist as part of a progressive rock band named ‘Semiramis’.  The following year, it disbanded and Michele joined another group called ‘Rovescio della Medaglia’.  Afterwards, he released 2 singles as a solo artist and in 1979 participated in the Castrocaro Festival, winning with the track ‘Indietro No’.

During the 80s, Zarrillo competed 4 times in the yearly San Remo Music Festival: the first time was in 1981, singing ‘Su quel pianeta Libero’, arriving in 8th place; the following year he interpreted the track ‘Una Rosa Blu’, but was a non-finalist; in 1987, he won the contest with ‘La Notte dei Pensieri’ and the year that followed he placed 13th with the song ‘Come un giorno di sole’.

After a 2-year hiatus, Michele returned to the music scene and collaborated with a music producer to release his third album.  During that decade, Zarrillo performed thrice in the SRMF with the tracks ‘Strade di Roma’, ‘Cinque Giorni’ and ‘L’Elefante e la Farfalla’ in 1992, 1994 and 1996 respectively.

In the last 25 years, Michele competed 6 more times in the festival but never won.  His best result was in 2006 when he placed 2nd with the song ‘L’alfabeto degli Amanti’.

During his career so far, Zarrillo published 10 studio, 2 live and 4 compilation albums and had 48 singles.
