TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY... PUPO

Italian singer Enzo Ghinazzi, best known by his stage name Pupo, was born 68 years ago in Ponticino, Tuscany, is married and has 2 daughters.  Apart from singing, he is a songwriter, writer, TV personality and voice actor.

In 1975, Pupo composed and interpeted his first song named ‘Ti Scrivero`’, and the following year his debut album was released, and a second one 2 years after.  It featured the hit singles ‘Ciao’ and ‘Gelato al Cioccolato’.  Meanwhile, he began to write and compose songs for other artists.

At the beginning of the 80s, Enzo participated in the yearly San Remo Music Festival for the first time, interpreting his most popular hit ‘Su di Noi’, placing third in the competition.  This track was also included in his third album, together with another big hit ‘Firenze Santa Maria Novella’.  These hits increased Pupo’s popularity both in his country as well as around the world.

In the 1981 San Remo Music Festival, the group ‘I Ricchi e Poveri’ interpreted the popular song ‘Sara’ perche ti Amo’ which was written by Pupo.  During that decade, Enzo participated twice more in the Festival.  Consequently, he embarked on several tours, not just in Italy but also internationally.

During the 90s, Pupo released his one and only live album and competed again in the SRMF.  Also 5 studio albums were recorded.  In the last 2 decades, Enzo competed again in the SRMF in 2009 and 2010.  He resumed touring in 2022, after the COVID-19 pandemic, and is currently engaged on a World Tour.

Apart from his singing career, Pupo hosted several TV and radio shows, as well as voiced some animated film characters.  He has also written and published 3 books.

During his long career, Enzo received 11 gold records and the ‘Gondola D’Oro’.
