American actress, director and producer Regina Renee King was born 54 years ago in Los Angeles County, California, is divorced and had a son.
After graduating from high school in 1988, Regina attended university for 2 years, where she studied communications.
King’s acting career began in 1985 when a 14-year old Regina was cast in the TV series ‘227’, in which she interpreted the main character of Brenda Jenkins until the series ended 5 years later.
In 1991, she made her big screen debut in the crime-drama movie ‘Boyz n the Hood’. For the rest of that decade, Regina appeared in 9 films and gained fame particularly from her roles in ‘Jerry Maguire’ and ‘Enemy of the State’, alongside Tom Cruise and Will Smith respectively. She also guest appeared in 3 TV series and had a part in a TV film.
Since the year 2000 to date, King continued with her career, becoming an established actress. During these years, she starred in 17 movies and 19 TV productions, most of them in leading roles. These include: ‘Down to Earth’, ‘A Cinderella Story’, ‘Ray’, ‘Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous’, ‘Our Family Wedding’, ‘Shirley’ (which she also directed), ‘Leap of Faith’, ’24’, ‘Southland’, ‘American Crime’, ‘The Leftovers’, ‘Seven Seconds’ and ‘Watchmen’. She also voiced a couple of animated movie characters.
In 2010 and 2011, Regina directed 2 music videos and between 2013 and 2024, she directed 12 TV series and a film, 2 of which she was also the executive producer. These include ‘Being Mary Jane’, ‘Scandal’, ‘Shameless’, ‘The Good Doctor’ and ‘One Night in Miami..’. King is currently cast in an upcoming crime thriller movie named ‘Caught Stealing’ which is presently in the filming process.
During her ±40-year career, Regina received 64 awards out of 121 nominations amongst which there are 7 NAACP Image, 6 Black Reel, 4 Primetime Emmy, 3 BET, 3 Satellite, 1 Academy and 1 Golden Globe.
