Shakin’ Stevens, real name Michael Barratt, was born on 4th March 1948 in Wales, UK. He has 10 brothers and sisters, was married to Carole Dunn and has 3 children.
When he was about 20 years old, he sang in pubs and clubs during weekends. He joined a rock ‘n’ roll band named Backbeats as the lead singer, which later changed its name to Shakin’ Stevens and the Sunsets. Although they issued a number of albums and singles, they were not very successful and Shakin’ Stevens tried his luck as a solo artist.
In 1977, he performed in a musical called ‘Elvis!’ where he was given the main part as Elvis. This led him to stardom in the 1980’s and 1990’s, when he released various hits, some of which reached no 1 in the music charts. These include ‘You Drive Me Crazy’. ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’, ‘Oh Julie’, ‘Green Door’, and ‘This Ole House’. He continued releasing songs and is still presently active.
