TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY...TONY HADLEY

Anthony Patrick Hadley was born 62 years ago in London, England, married twice and has 2 children.  Apart from singing, he also composes songs, is an actor as well as a radio presenter.

In 1976, Tony created the group ‘The Cut’, which then changed to ‘Spandau Ballet’, and of whom he is the lead singer.  He is best known for his strong voice and elegant appearance.  During the 80’s, the band became successful internationally with hits like ‘Gold’, ‘True’ and ‘Through the Barricades’.

After releasing 8 albums, the band broke up in 1990, after a not very successful latest album.  At this point, Tony decided to continue his career as a solo artist and his first album was issued 2 years later, however, it did not achieve the successfulness that was expected.

Tony went on and set up his personal discography business and his first single followed.  In 1996, he performed live in the rock opera ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ which was aired on radio. Later that year, Tony went on a European orchestral tour with other artists like Joe Cocker.

During the two decades that followed, he collaborated with several artists on tours as well as TV shows, and issued more albums.  These works gave him a good push to be popular once again.

In 2009, there was a rumour that ‘Spandau Ballet’ were going to reunite again and in fact they did and went on tour for 2 years, with great success.  In spite of this, however, the group split once again and this time for good.

Tony participated a couple of times in the Italian yearly San Remo Song Festival, presented radio programmes and starred in movies and TV series as well.

Hadley was honoured with the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire award for his charitable work concerning children.
