CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY TODAY...DEN HARROW

Stefano Zandri was born 60 years ago in Nova Milanese, Italy and is a model as well as an artist in the Italo disco genre.

The name Den Harrow derives from ‘denaro’, which is the Italian word for ‘money’.  His producers decided to ‘hide’ his original birth name and introduced him to the music industry as Manuel Stefano Curry from the US , in order that he may enter the English-speaking world more smoothly.  It was a favourable decision.  Consequently, the stage name Den Harrow followed.

From 1983 til 2006, Den had 31 singles, plus 3 studio & 4 compilation albums, 2 of which were re-worked with new songs.  His main success was in the 1980’s, with songs like ‘Future Brain’, ‘Catch the Fox’, ‘Charleston’, ‘Don’t break my Heart’ and ‘Tell Me Why’.  Although he never had any number one hits, some of the songs did make it to the Top 10 charts around Europe.

After he reached significant stardom, Den disclosed that he did not sing the songs himself.  Instead, these were done by several other singers, amongst whom there was American singer Tom Hooker.  This decision was taken because Den was not really able to sing and so he just mimed by moving his lips concurrently with the song.  However, in 1991, the single ‘Ocean’ was sung by him, as stated by Tom Hooker himself.

Den took part in ‘Sunset Beach’, a US TV series, appeared in a reality show and also presented an Italian TV show.
