CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY TODAY... JULIAN LENNON

English musician, author, photographer and philanthropist John Charles Julian Lennon was born 62 years ago in Liverpool, has never married nor has any children.  He is the son of John Lennon, one of the members of the famous 60’s band, The Beatles.

When Julian was only 5, his parents divorced due to his father’s unfaithfulness, who then married his then Japanese girlfriend, Yoko Ono. In the years that followed, Julian’s relationship with his father was not very good.  When he got older and more mature, he even accused him of being a hypocrite.  After his dad’s death in 1980, he angrily stated that John was always talking about love and peace and did not show them to his own family.  In fact, he said that he was closer to Paul McCartney than his own father.  In spite of all this, Julian had actually reconciled and recuperated contact with his dad before he died.

Interesting to note is that 3 of the Beatles’ songs were inspired by Julian: ‘Lucy in the Sky of Diamonds’, ‘Hey Jude’ (written by Paul McCartney and dedicated to Julian as a consolation after his parents’ divorce) and ‘Good Night’.

Julian’s career in music took off in 1984 when his first album ‘Valotte’ was released, which included the top ten hit ‘Too Late for Goodbyes’.  In 1985, he was nominated for a Grammy Award but did not win.

In the 90s, Lennon put the music business aside for a few years to concentrate on philanthropy.  Over the years, he continued to contribute towards various good causes particularly humanitarian issues and in 2020, was awarded the CC Forum Philanthropy Award.

To date, Julian released 7 studio albums, 1 compilation and 37 singles.  He has also produced 3 movies, acted in the 1995 film ‘Leaving Las Vegas’, published a book and appeared in several TV shows.

Apart from music, films and TV, Lennon is also a photographer and since 2010 has held numerous exhibitions across different states in the US.
