TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY...GARY SINISE

American actor Gary Alan Sinise was born 68 years ago in Blue Island, Illinois, is married and has 3 children.

When he was 19, Gary formed a theatrical company together with two friends.  There he perfected his skills as actor and director and even succeeded in winning an award for directing a play named ‘Orphans’.  This led him to Chicago, New York and eventually London’s West End.

Gary’s career took off in 1982 with the play ‘True West’, which he directed as well as performed in.  Six years later, he was the director of the film ‘Miles from Home’ and during the 90s starred alongside actor Tom Hanks in the movies ‘Forrest Gump’, ‘Apollo 13’ and ‘The Green Mile’, which were all very successful.

Other significant films he was cast in were ‘Ransom’, ‘Snake Eyes’, ‘Mission to Mars’ and ‘Impostor’, to name a few.  In 2004, Gary played Detective Mac Taylor in 2 episodes of the famous CSI series: ‘CSI Miami’ and then starred in the same leading role in all 197 episodes of ‘CSI New York’ until 2013, also acting as producer as from season two.  In some of the episodes, Gary showed his musical skills when he played the bass guitar in a jazz club.  During that same period, he was cast in several movies and TV series, voiced characters in animated films and acted as narrator in various documentaries.

In the last decade, Gary proceeded with his career as actor and producer and starred in ‘Sgt Will Gardner’, ‘I Still Believe’ and ‘Joe Bell’ as well the TV series ‘Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders’, of which he was also the producer.

Sinise is also an avid philanthropist and has in fact co-created Operation Iraqi Children.  He supports the US Military and is also the spokesman of American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial.

During his career, Gary won 11 Awards including 3 Screen Actors Guild, a Golden Globe, a Primetime Emmy and a Tony, amongst others.  In addition, he received around 20 awards with regards to his humanitarian work, amongst which there is the Presidential Citizens Medal and the American Spirit Award.
