Nigerian-born Swedish singer, rapper and producer Alban Uzoma Nwapa, known professionally as Dr Alban, was born 67 years ago in Imo, Nigeria, is divorced and has 2 daughters.
He attended secondary school in his hometown and when he was 23, since he was interested in dentistry, he went to Sweden to continue with his studies there. Since he needed money to do this, he worked as a DJ in a nightclub and became popular in a very short time. Alban also managed to open a dentistry business whilst maintaining his part-time DJ job.
In 1990, his first record was released, including the songs ‘Hello Afrika’ and ‘No Coke’ which were both big hits and sold millions of copies. The year after, his second album came out and included the hit ‘It’s my Life’ which reached number one in several European countries. Another successful song which featured in the same album is ‘Sing Hallelujah’.
During the rest of the 90s, 3 more albums were released, however, they did not achieve the same success as the previous ones.
In the next 2 decades, Alban had 2 more albums and 11 singles and also collaborated with other artists like Sash! who helped him with the remake of his song ‘Hello Afrika’ in 2010 and Jessica Folcker with whom he sang and participated in a song festival in 2014.
In all, Dr Alban had 7 studio albums, 1 compilation, 31 singles as lead artist and 8 singles as featured artist.
