Italian singer-songwriter and TV host Luca Barbarossa was born 64 years ago in Rome, is married and has 3 children.
Luca’s singing career began by playing and singing in one of Rome’s most famous Squares, Piazza Navona. In 1980, he was invited by a record producer to compete in the Castrocaro Music Festival, which he eventually won with the song ‘Sara` l’eta`’. He was then offered a record contract and the following year, he participated in the yearly prestigious San Remo Festival with the track ‘Roma Spogliata’, placing 4th. A few months later, Luca released his debut album and afterwards embarked on a tour with famous Italian singer Riccardo Cocciante, singing as a supporting act.
For the rest of the 80s, Barbarossa released 3 albums and 8 singles and participated in 4 different music festivals: Disco Per l’Estate in 1982, in 1987 in the San Remo Music Festival, Disco Per L’Estate once again, winning the contest with the track ‘Roberto’, and Vota La Voce, winning an award for ‘Best Revelation’. In 1988, his popularity rose even more, particularly when he competed in the SRMF with the song ‘L’Amore Rubato’. Another popular single was ‘Yuppies’ released that year as well. A couple of months later, he represented his country in the Eurovision Song Contest with ‘Ti Scrivo (Vivo).
In 1992, he was the winner of the SRMF with ‘Portami a Ballare’, dedicated to this mother. It peaked to first place on the charts, as did his 5th album released afterwards.
Since then to date, Luca had 7 more studio albums, 3 live, 2 collections and 10 singles. He also participated a few more times in the SRMF, however, he never won again.
Apart from music, Barbarossa appeared in various TV shows, performed in a stage play for 2 years, was a guest on a radio programme, starred in a movie and also wrote a book. On a personal note, Luca is an ex-tennis instructor and also forms part of the football team ‘Nazionale Italiana Cantanti’, of which he is the top scorer with 221 goals in 259 matches.
